So Not Amused - Jack
In September I am flying out to Denver for a work conference. (Keith is going on a vacation.) After spending a couple days and many hours, I finally found a flight that was reasonably priced and got me there in a few hours with only one short layover. I was leaving here around 11:00 am (yay! No early morning dash to the airport), arriving in Cincinnati around 12:45 pm, had a 45 minute layover in the airport, left Cincinnati around 1:30 pm to arrive in Denver at 2:30 pm, getting me to the hotel for the 3:00 pm check-in time.

Today I get a message from the airline that it has all changed.

Now I am leaving at 6:00 am in the morning. (So much for no early morning dash to the airport.) Arrive at Cincinnati by 8:00 am. Now here is where the kicker comes in -- I get to spend 8 friggin' hours in the airport!!! Flight out of Cincinnati leaves at 4:45 pm to arrive in Denver by 5:45 pm.

Not only that, but they change all of our seating arrangements so that we're not even sitting together -- even though there are lots of seats on the planes that are together! I spent 20 minutes just trying to rearrange our seats. I managed to do it for all flights except for the first leg of the journey.

Had a pretty good run so far -- I booked this back in April, so it was at least 3 months without a change. Who knows, there could be another change before traveling in September. I hope there is. They really need to fix the 8 friggin' hours in the airport bit.

well... i know it doesn't really seem like an upside, but how often do early morning flights out of syracuse actually take off on time? i know mine haven't in the past...

the upside to that is that while that would have effed up your 45min layover, it could take a chunk out of your 8 hour layover.

plus, that's why there are restaurants and shops in airports. certainly the one in cincinnati has to be bigger than syracuse.

My early morning flights have usually left pretty close to on time -- but unless they're delayed an extra four hours, it isn't going to change much on the layover. (And being stuck on the tarmac here doesn't change anything.)

Upside: Usually I'm "on the clock" from the moment I step into the airport until I step into my hotel room. So that's a bit of extra overtime for me.

Downside: You haven't experienced Keith when he has nothing to do for eight hours. It's scary.
