New Year's Day. My first post for 2007. Beyond this brief introduction, I am going to start the year off with just three simple words:
Oh. My. God.
Keith and I went to see Dreamgirls today. The movie was phenominal! There was not one wrong note in the whole production and Jennifer Hudson just kills as Effie White. When she started singing "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going," I just couldn't stop the tears from flowing. It was just beautiful. Then she hit the final note of that song. The audience just burst into applause, with some people in the theatre whistling and cheering for her. In fact, this one older lady sitting behind me just spontaneously cried out, "You go girl!" It's not often one sees a movie in which the audience is so moved by an actor's performance that they respond in the same manner as if it were a live show or concert.
Then came the ending, and I couldn't help but weep a second time. (I'm not going to go into it because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who has the inclination to go.) All I can say is that it was marvellous. I would have to agree with the critics on this one. It is just as good -- if not better -- than Chicago.
And that's all I'm going to say. When a movie is that good, words will ultimately fail you.
